Switzerland's efforts to update its free trade agreement with China have stalled as Bern has become more critical of Beijing's human rights record.

Switzerland and China signed a free trade agreement in 2013, a mutually beneficial treaty aimed at helping to increase trade between the countries.

Switzerland is trying to update the agreement to extend tariff reductions to more Swiss goods and to expand the agreement to include elements of sustainable development.
